On-Site Service Engineer: Phoenix, AZ

We have an immediate opening for an On-Site Service Engineer in Phoenix, AZ.  This position is 1st shift.  Occasionally this position may have to work different shifts and be on-call for nights and weekends.  The position reports to the Protedyne Customer Care Manager. The ideal candidates must work well under minimal managerial direction to perform customer support activities involving installation, troubleshooting, repair, qualifications, validation services, and preventive maintenance for complex laboratory automation.  May also be required to provide operator training and field upgrades as required. The positions will train at Protedyne’s Windsor, CT facility for the first 2-3 months.

On-Site Service Engineer: Phoenix, AZ - Full Description

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the Propel, Matrix, and Propel Plate Accelerator systems – running the systems, completing preventative maintenance and doing routine and emergency repairs.
  • Executes Factory Acceptance Testing of automation equipment at Protedyne’s manufacturing site in Windsor, CT.
  • Installs equipment at customer sites and conducts Site Acceptance Tests.
  • Responsible for system upgrades, qualifications and testing.
  • Responsible for the upkeep and accuracy of assigned inventory.
  • Provides high level of customer support in a fast-paced and challenging work environment.
  • Continuously improves knowledge and skills to increase proficiency on equipment.
  • Routinely completes administrative paperwork such as but not limited to: Customer Feedback, Time Reports, Inventory Reports, Equipment Checklists, and Maintenance Checklists.
  • Occasionally provides training for operators of equipment.
  • 25% domestic travel required (mostly during 3-month training period)
  • Provide weekend, holiday and after hours work.
  • Perform other assigned duties as required.

Requirements:

  • A.S. or B.S. degree in a technical field or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Computer literacy required (Microsoft Excel, word, Outlook)
  • Working knowledge of various troubleshooting/analysis tools.  Proficient use of diagnostic instrumentation and equipment such as DVMs, Oscilloscopes, Micrometers, etc.
  • Minimum of 3 years related field service experience with complex automation systems. 
  • Previous Field Service experience in medical or laboratory automation is a plus.
  • Demonstrates strong interpersonal and customer satisfaction skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot complex electrical, pneumatic, and mechanical systems.
  • Must possess excellent analytical, problem-solving and communication skills and demonstrate the ability to make sound judgments in the field.
  • Ability to accurately diagnose issues as described by customers.  Ability to triage calls and develop a best practices solution to keep systems in production.
  • Ability to instruct customers in system operation and maintenance.
  • The ability to maintain professional demeanor and sense of humor in demanding situations at customer site.
  • Must be able to lift and carry heavy items (minimum 50 lbs) regularly such as inventory, tools, and instrumentation.
  • Must be able to work independently and take ownership of on-site service responsibilities.

Associate Software Engineer: Windsor, CT

We have an immediate opening for an Associate Software Engineer in Windsor, CT. This position will help develop applications for laboratory automation/robotic systems. This is an entry-level, hands-on position working with robots and peripheral equipment from prototype to production. These applications are used in networked, embedded laboratory automation systems. A desire to enter and grow in the field of automation technologies is required. Experience in Java, Spring Framework, and web applications with a database backend is a plus. This position is perfect for individuals passionate about software development, with a focus on learning and growing in the field of laboratory automation/robotic systems.

Associate Software Engineer: Windsor, CT - Full Description

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Work under the guidance of experienced professionals to design, develop, and support software applications for laboratory robots involved in liquid-handling and instrument-tending.
  • Work with Manufacturing Engineering to write bring-up, test, and diagnostic software for production automation equipment.
  • Learn and contribute to the design and development of application-specific user interfaces, including web applications.
  • Contribute to the development of core tools using multiple software environments to simplify application programming.
  • Work alongside our Customer Care team to gain hands-on experience troubleshooting field service issues, enhancing your problem-solving skills.
  • Gain experience in developing within an ISO 13485 Quality environment, ensuring a high standard of software development practices.

Skills/Knowledge/Educational Requirements:

  • Experience developing application or embedded control software
    • Background in object-oriented design methodologies
    • Experience with Java, C/C++, Python, Rust
    • Understanding of electrical interfacing, sensors, and motors
      • While experience with technologies like machine vision, robotics and mobile robots is a plus, it is not a requirement. We are looking for candidates eager to learn and motivated to apply their skills in a real-world setting.
  • Experience with Java and/or another object-oriented language
    • Experience with IDEs and source control tools
    • Knowledge of Java-based frameworks a plus, specifically the Spring Framework
    • Experience with containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) a plus
    • Experience with relational and/or NoSQL database architecture a plus
  • Effective communication skills necessary
  • Experience in a fast-paced, team-based design environment
  • Understanding of CSS styling and HTML5 a plus
  • Web technologies, including Angular and Node experience a plus

Manufacturing Engineer: Windsor, CT

We have an immediate opening for a Manufacturing Engineer in Windsor, CT.  This position is responsible for providing technical expertise within manufacturing and the installed base.   Develops and implements cost-effective manufacturing and field processes and methods in accordance with product specifications and quality standards.  Manages the manufacturing work order process for new builds and spare assemblies.

Manufacturing Engineer: Windsor, CT - Full Description

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Diagnose and troubleshoot technical issues associated with complex robotic systems, including electro-mechanics, pneumatics, infrared laser markers, and vision systems.
  • Develop and improve manufacturing and field processes and methods focusing on quality, efficiency, availability, and cost reduction.
  • Investigate parts design and manufacturing issues and propose and author ECN corrective actions.
  • Design and procure tools and equipment to enhance manufacturing quality and efficiency.
  • Create and implement *best method* manufacturing process to ensure smooth flow of products through assembly, qualification and shipping.
  • Develop manufacturing and field processes and create work instructions for new products and changes in existing products.
  • Provide technical expertise to supply chain management, focusing on quality, efficiency and cost reduction.
  • Lead the effort to identify and implement cost effective out-sourcing strategies.
  • Mentor junior Engineers and technicians.
  • Create and maintain manufacturing work orders, including creating and maintaining routings.

Skills/Knowledge/Educational Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical, Electrical or Manufacturing Engineering or equivalent experience
  • Experience with 3-D CAD; proficiency in SolidWorks a plus.
  • 4-7 years experience in manufacturing engineering.  Background should include experience with complex electro-mechanical systems, laser markers, and pneumatics.
  • Experience implementing Lean Manufacturing principles in a high-tech, low-volume environment.
  • Experience in working directly with suppliers to improve quality and lower costs.
  • Must have understanding of ERP systems.
  • Experience with Oracle is a plus.
  • Must have direct experience in Engineering Change Processing.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and teamwork skills.  Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Familiarity with Big Data analysis tools (Tableau, SalesForce, etc) is a plus.
